Imposter Up – Who is the Spy? is a social deduction party game where players take on hidden roles to outwit each other. Designed for groups ranging from 3 to 24 people, the game centers around a secret word that all players receive, except for one: the Imposter. The Imposter’s objective is to feign knowledge of the word and deduce it from others’ conversations without revealing their true identity. Adding a unique twist, a player known as Mr. White receives no word at all, relying purely on bluffing and deduction to survive the round or guess the secret word to win.
Core Gameplay and Player Roles
The game unfolds in rounds where players engage in conversation, asking indirect questions and offering vague answers to subtly confirm shared knowledge or expose inconsistencies. Civilians aim to identify the Imposter and Mr. White by observing hesitations, slip-ups, or overconfidence in responses. The Imposter must blend in seamlessly and deduce the word from the dialogue, while Mr. White, without any initial clues, must also try to guess the word or survive the voting process through clever deception. At the end of a discussion phase, players vote to eliminate the most suspicious individual. Rounds are fast-paced and continue with players being voted out one by one until the truth about the hidden roles is revealed.
Game Structure and Content
Each game is structured into quick, intense rounds, making for an unpredictable experience whether you are trying to deceive or detect. The game includes hundreds of secret words and various themed word packs, contributing to its replayability. This design makes it suitable for diverse social settings, from remote play on video calls to in-person gatherings with friends and family.
